A Monograph In Seven Plates
The Democratic Toaster
— each slice requires a quorum vote
Plate II
Abstract
The Democratic Toaster (Cat. MAI–002) was conceived in response to mounting concerns regarding the autocratic tendencies of conventional small kitchen appliances⁴. Each loaf elects three Slice Representatives via ranked-choice ballot; a motion to toast is then debated in chambers, with the heating elements serving as both legislators and gallery. Quorum is established at four crumbs. In 31% of operations, the assembly adjourns indefinitely⁵.
